Fable 5 came back with tighter rules than a free-for-all window. If you treat it like an unlimited default model, you will hit the wall early. This is how I stretch it.

## This is not an unlimited tier

In the window I wrote about, Fable 5 sat on Pro / Max / Team and some Enterprise plans, with a hard share of weekly usage (about 50% in that period) and a later shift toward usage credits. Availability is not permission to burn. Budget the model.

## Keep effort at high

Fable 5 is strong at **high**. **xhigh** eats thinking tokens fast. Save **max** for decisions that actually need it. Find the lowest effort that still ships good outcomes.

## Do not hand implementation to Fable 5 by default

- Design and judgment: Fable 5
- Implementation: Codex
- Iteration and tests: Sonnet or Codex

Fable 5 is excellent and expensive. Before you open another long session, put model priority order in `CLAUDE.md`. The file is cheaper than learning the cap the hard way.
