YAGNI ladder ☑ 코드를 쓰기 전에 6단계 사다리를 타고, 첫 번째로 걸리는 단계에서 멈추게 합니다 이거 필요한가 → stdlib 에 있는가 → native feature 인가 → 설치된 dependency 로 되는가 → 한 줄로 되는가 → 그제서야 최소한의 코드 작성. 두 단계 이상 동시에 문제가 보인다면 더 높은 단계의 작업을 먼저 선택합니다. ↳ date picker 를 시켜봤더니 flatpickr 설치 대신 한 줄이 나왔습니다. 3번째 단(native feature)에서 걸린 겁니다. Caveman 과의 차이 ☑ Caveman 은 에이전트의 '말'을 줄이고, Ponytail 은 '코드'를 줄입니다 Caveman 은 output token 을 평균 65% 압축합니다. 다만 코드 생성량 자체는 그대로입니다. 설명을 줄이는 방식이기 때문입니다. Ponytail 은 코드를 쓸지 말지 자체를 판단하기 때문에 접근이 다릅니다. ↳ README: "Ponytail governs what you build, not how you talk. Pair with Caveman for terse prose." 벤치마크 ☑ 같은 6개 태스크를 3개 모델로 돌린 3-arm 비교에서 코드 86%, 토큰 47% 줄었습니다 코드량: No skill 3,629줄 → Caveman 1,440줄 → Ponytail 490줄. 토큰: 430,697 → 290,546 → 229,370. 불필요한 코드를 확 줄여버렸습니다. ↳ 한 태스크에서 에이전트가 190줄짜리 countdown 대시보드를 애니메이션까지 만들었습니다. 하지만 Ponytail 은 정말 필요한 13줄로 끝냈습니다. ponytail: 코멘트 ☑ 의도적으로 단순화한 자리에는 주석과 업그레이드 경로를 반드시 남깁니다 동시성 처리를 global lock 한 줄로 끝냈다면 코드에 이런 코멘트가 붙습니다. "지금은 이걸로 충분하지만 처리량이 커지면 per-account lock 으로 바꿀 것." 나중에 봐도 의도적 선택이었음을 알 수 있습니다. ↳ trust boundary validation 과 보안 작업은 절대 생략하지 않습니다. 에이전트가 단순 작업 하나에 수십 줄짜리 class 를 wrapper 까지 만들어 내놓는 경험을 해보셨다면 YAGNI ladder 가 바로 와닿을 겁니다. 그런 점에서 기존 AI의 장황한 설명을 줄이는 프로젝트 Caveman 과 함께 쓰면 에이전트의 코드와 설명을 동시에 잡을 수 있지 않을까 기대해봅니다.
